MANAGING ENGINEER

GYMO Architecture, Engineering, & Land Surveying, DPC is seeking a Managing Engineer to work within their Civil Engineering Department at their Watertown, NY office.  The Managing Engineer would be responsible for managing a wide array of site development projects of varying sizes and complexity including those in the municipal, institutional, governmental, commercial, and residential sectors. Extensive experience in design of storm water, roadway, water, sanitary sewer and parking facilities is required.

Applicant must be a motivated leader, be able to work well with others, and be responsible for the work of their project team, which would include design and project engineers, drafters, and field staff.  Must be able to advance projects through all facets of the project life cycle, from conceptual planning, funding applications/engineering studies to final design, contract administration, inspections, and project certifications. Navigation and application of pertinent codes and requirements is a must.

Professional Engineering Certification is required. Salary will be commensurate with experience. GYMO, DPC offers a competitive pay and benefits package, including medical insurance and 401k contributions.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Managing Engineer reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and Principals. This person has the responsibility for the technical and administrative overview of the Engineering Department projects and Business Development, as well as providing supervision and direction to the project team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Managing Engineer is responsible for duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Managing a wide array of site development projects of varying sizes and complexity including those in the municipal, institutional, governmental, commercial and residential sectors.
  • Participate in leadership roles and duties which includes project proposals, development of marketing strategies, day-to-day management of department and office personnel, financial, and policy decisions and actions.
  • Contribute management ideas on how to improve quality and expertise throughout the firm.
  • Design residential, commercial, and municipal civil and site engineering projects.
  • Communicate your design concepts and hand drafted designs to our Design and Project Engineers and/or our Drafting Manager to facilitate the drawings being prepared in AutoCAD.
  • Prepare correspondence, Engineering Reports, Technical Specifications, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans, and cost estimates.
  • Communicate with the client, team members, and regulatory agencies.
  • Meet with Planning Boards/Zoning Boards/Municipal Boards.
  • Perform field inspections and site visits.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED

PE Certification

Bachelors Degree in Engineering and 10-15 years of relevant experience.

Associates Degree and 15-10 years of relevant experience.

SALARY RANGE

$105,000 to $115,000 or based on experience

SENIOR MUNICIPAL ENGINEER

This is a position for a licensed Engineer with experience working with Municipal Infrastructure projects. The Senior Municipal Engineer is responsible for the timely and accurate completion of projects including the supervision of work of subordinate engineers. The Senior Municipal Engineer utilizes verbal and written communication skills to maintain a close relationship with the client from the proposal to the completion phase, to confirm that the client receives the designs and opinions described in the contract between the Firm and the client. The Senior Municipal Engineer will assume budgetary, client contact, and business development responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Municipal Engineer is responsible for duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintains routine contact with the client during the study, funding, design, and construction phases of a project within the limits delegated by the Managing Engineer.
  • Understands and has expertise in the State and Federal funding requirements of Municipal projects
  • Understands and has experience working with Municipalities to develop funding strategies for Municipal projects
  • Maintains contact with the client after project is completed in order to promote future business activity.
  • Periodically reviews the schedule and cost of the projects under his or her supervision, with the Managing Engineer.
  • Assists in the preparation and review of invoices relevant to projects under direct supervision.
  • Prepares qualifications/proposals and conducts efforts supporting business development activities.
  • Prepares Preliminary Engineer Reports, studies, and funding applications for projects.
  • Prepares work necessary to complete Contract Documents (plans & specifications) for all work on which bids are to be taken.
  • Attends bid openings, prepares tabulations of bids and conformed contracts, and prepares letters of award to the contractor.
  • Participates in selecting the project team.
  • Cooperatives and communicates with other engineers, designers, and drafters assigned to the various phases of the project.
  • Performs detailed checking of completed work performed under his or her direct supervision.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • Passed PE exam.
  • Bachelors Degree and 5-8 years of relevant experience OR
  • Associates Degree and I0-12 years of relevant experience.

SALARY RANGE

$85,000 – $95,000

PROJECT ENGINEER

This is a position for a person who will achieve total project management responsibility for small, medium and large-scale projects and include the supervision of the work of Design Engineers and Engineering Technicians. The Project Engineer will assume a daily role in client contact activities and will develop a working knowledge of the Firm’s marketing activities.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Project Engineer reports directly to Senior Project and Managing Engineers. This person works with relative independence but may turn to Senior Engineers for aid in solving a problem. The Project Engineerhas frequent client contact during the course of the project and may be expected to establish working relationships with clients for future business development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Engineer is responsible for duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develops and prepares plans and details utilizing Computer Aided Drafting.
  • Assumes budgetary and scheduling responsibilities as so directed by those in supervision.
  • Assumes an increased role in client relations in order to develop skills and establish contacts for the purpose of future business development.
  • Assists in the preparation of proposals/qualifications and other efforts to support business development activities.
  • Prepares reports, opinions, and recommendations for the approval of the Managing or Senior Project Engineer concerning the direction of the project.
  • Executes design computations, develops design criteria, designs sketches, plans, reports, time and expense estimates, and economic comparisons on projects under supervision.
  • Prepares Contract Documents.
  • Makes major design recommendations.
  • Coordinates with surveyors, architects, boring contractors, and other consultants retained by the Firm.
  • Supervises the review and processing of shop drawings during construction, and in some cases, will review shop drawings for conformance to the Contract Documents.
  • Detailed checking of all work done under their direct supervision.
  • Project bidding coordination.
  • Supervision of the preparation of As-Built Drawings.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • Passed EIT Exam.
  • Bachelors Degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Associates Degree and 7-10 years of relevant experience.

SALARY RANGE

  • $66,000 – $83,000

CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR

Position(s) available for CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR, NICET Level III certification or above in Highway Construction, or the equivalent based on the individual’s knowledge and experience is preferred. Successful applicant must have strong communication and organizational skills and be multi-disciplined in all phases of site, highway, bridge, and utility construction. Duties will include performing detailed inspections of utility construction projects; interpreting plans, details and specifications to ensure construction and contract compliance; preparation of detailed project inspection reports; tracking in-place material quantities; developing Request for Information (RFIs); as-built sketches, etc.

All applicants must have a strong commitment to the North Country community. Applicants must also be responsible, ambitious, and willing to work overtime and in a professional manner. Applicants must be able to provide their own transportation to project sites within 50 miles of Watertown, NY.

SALARY RANGE

$42 to $48 per hour based on experience.

SENIOR CONSTRUCTION MANAGER  

A Senior Construction Manager will spend most of their time on active construction projects and is responsible for managing the prime contractors on scale multiple-prime K-12, municipal, state government, or hospital projects. While onsite the Senior Construction Manager will oversee the daily work activities of each of the Prime Contractors to ensure it is in compliance with the project drawings and specifications. They will interface with the owner to coordinate access to spaces required for construction and provide daily updates of the construction activities. Their job is to oversee qualified construction workers onsite and assist in meeting the set deadlines for each phase of construction within the owner’s desired budget.  

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Senior Construction Managers will report to the Project Executive and Director of Construction Management. The Senior Construction Manager will be onsite whenever the contractors are.    

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing day to day activities of the onsite prime contractors and their subcontractors 
  • Work closely with Architects and Engineers to establish the requirements for the construction. 
  • Run construction superintendent meetings, 
  • Prepare daily reports with photo documentation, 
  • Reviewing payment applications, 
  • Review Change order proposals, 
  • Develop Request for Information 
  • Prepare punch list items 
  • Verify that work reflects the specifications and meets the quality requirements 
  • Liaison with the owner while onsite to coordinate all work items 

EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • 6+ Years of Relevant Experience

SALARY RANGE

  • $60,000 – $90,000
